Facts about Voting



Do you know that you can VOTE if have left your native city
Do you know that IF YOU BELONG TO ARMED FORCES you can appoint a PROXY to vote on your behalf
Do you know that if your name is not yet in the electoral list, you can still register?
Do you know that if someone else has cast the vote in your name, you can still vote?
Do you know that you can cast a “Protest Vote”


  1. Do you know that you can VOTE if have left your native city (city where you were registered in the electoral roll). Say, a software professional originally from Indore is now working in Bangalore

    Fill out file claim application in Form-6 to:

    • Get your name deleted from the place where you earlier resided by providing complete address of your earlier place of residence


    • Submit the Form-6 with your new residing address to the Electoral Registration Officer of the new place

    NOTE: Make sure you are not registered in more than one constituency. Registration in more than one constituency is an OFFENSE.




  2. Do you know that IF YOU BELONG TO ARMED FORCES you can appoint a PROXY to vote on your behalf

    You can vote through proxy. (Voters opting to vote through proxy are called “Classified Service Voters (CSV))

  3. Do you know that if your name is not yet in the electoral list, you can still register?

    As per the Election Commission of India, your name can be registered upto the last date of nominations by candidates as notified by the Election Commission of India for any election. Please ensure that you apply at least 10 days before the nomination deadline for the elections.

    Simply fill out the Form-6 and get yourself registered.




  4. Do you know that if someone else has cast the vote in your name, you can still vote?

    Do the following:

    • Inform the Presiding Officer immediately


    • Ask for a “Tendered Ballot Paper” Sign your name on the list of tendered votes.


    • Ensure that your Tendered Ballot Paper is endorsed on the back with the words “Tendered Ballot paper” either stamped or written by the Returning or Presiding Officer


    • Cast your “Tendered Vote”



  5. Do you know that you can cast a “Protest Vote”

    Under Article 49O, you have the right to NOT vote. Explain the process.
