There are two foremost requirements for an eligible voter to ensure that he can vote –
- Check your name in the electoral roll
[An electoral roll is a list of all eligible citizens who are entitled to cast their vote in an election. The electoral roll is prepared based on Assemble Constituency.
Search your name in the electoral roll - http://search.eci.gov.in/
Election Commission prepares/revises the electoral rolls by performing house-to-house enumeration and physically going door-to-door to collect elector information.
- If your name is not in the electoral roll
Fill Form-6 and submit it to the Electoral Registration Officer of your constituency

- If you have moved to a new place –
Fill out file claim application in Form-6 to:
- Get your name deleted from the place where you earlier resided by providing complete address of your earlier place of residence
- Submit the Form-6 with your new residing address to the Electoral Registration Officer of the new place
NOTE: Make sure you are not registered in more than one constituency. Registration in more than one constituency is an OFFENSE.
- If you want to modify any of your particulars in the electoral roll –
File a claim in Form-8 to change/modify any particulars in the electoral roll such as name, middle name, last name, house number, age, sex, etc.
- If you have moved within the same constituency
File a claim in Form-8A for change form one electoral part to another (one booth to other booth) with the same Assembly Constituency
- If you have objection to somebody’s name in the electoral roll
File a claim in Form-7 to raise an objection to somebody’s name or for deletion of his or any other person’s name.
- If you are a voter belonging to the Armed Forces or member of a Force to which provisions of Army Act applies –
You can vote through proxy. (Voters opting to vote through proxy are called “Classified Service Voters (CSV))
File application Form-13F to appoint a proxy.

NOTE: As per the Election Commission of India, your name can be registered upto the last date of nominations by candidates as notified by the Election Commission of India for any election. Please ensure that you apply at least 10 days before the nomination deadline for the elections.
