Definition of Indian Middle Class

There are several definitions of the Indian Middle Class.

In one instance, the definition of a middle class Indian is loosely based on the income levels of the individuals. The tax evasion by millions of Indians does not make it easy to accurately estimate the Indian Middle Class. However, families living in towns and cities whose incomes lie between 75% and 125% of the median of Rs 4500 can be safely regarded as Middle Class Indians.

Middle Class as defined by Sankhya: The Indian Journal of Statistics comprises of families of professionals and urban white-collar employees.
